911: Lone Star returned from its midseason hiatus and got the ball rolling when it came to Judd’s sobriety arc. So far, he has not been doing as well as he appears, despite the front he puts up at work. However, his friend and Captain, Owen, made sure to keep an eye on him.

After a call involving a fire at a shooting range, Owen noticed Judd was putting himself in danger during the call. Seemingly, he didn’t seem to care at all. Plus, despite going to meetings, it’s clear Judd is still not doing well. Eventually, Owen learned that without Grace and their daughter Charlie, who is staying with her grandparents, Judd has once again fallen off the wagon.

In fact, Judd’s faith has also taken a nosedive. It got worse when he attempted to call Grace for help and he was unable to get through to talk to her. It led to him breaking a bottle and injuring himself. In an effort to keep an eye on Judd, Owen offered to stay at his place.

How was Judd able to overcome his demons in 911: Lone Star?

Work was also where Judd was kept an eye on, as well. He had to stay behind on calls when he put himself in danger. This was for Owen to determine whether he was fit enough to go out until Owen could trust he wasn’t a danger to himself or anyone they tried to help.

Judd did get a chance to help the priest who led his sobriety meetings after a car crash. It was like a sign he needed to keep moving forward. However, despite this and attending his co-worker, Marjan’s, wedding, Judd was still lost.

Arriving home, Judd stared at a photo of Grace before going to find a hidden bottle of alcohol. After asking God for help, he heard his phone chime. It was Grace, who had an opportunity to talk with him. It was the sign Judd needed and he eagerly answered after dumping the alcohol down the drain.

This storyline showed that it isn’t always easy to beat an addiction, especially when you still feel adrift without your anchor. Despite having Owen there physically, Judd needed to be able to talk to his wife to feel a sense of peace.

With two episodes left, we know Judd will still have a lot of work to do if he wants to overcome this battle. But hopefully now that he has been able to talk to his wife, he can find it within himself to beat the demons inside of himself.

All in all, the episode gave us a glimpse into how many of the characters were doing, especially Marjan as she sought her parents’ approval in order to marry her boyfriend, Joe. Then after dealing with anxiety over expressing her feelings to them, she had the wedding of her dreams, even though it did quickly take place at the 126 station.

The last two episodes of the series are quickly approaching, especially with the long teased disaster involving an asteroid. Will the city of Austin, Texas make it? Find out when the next episode airs on Monday, Jan. 27 at 8/7c on FOX.
