The penultimate episode of season 22 of NCIS continued McGee’s investigation into Laroche, which was beginning not only to affect him professionally but also personally. What happened and how did this lead into the season finale, which is set to air in May, 2025?

While Tim was supposed to go home and rest since the Laroche case was causing him to lose sleep, the team got a case involving a theft and a military grade radio jammer that was used to prevent any 911 calls from going out. When the team looked into who would rob a birthday van, they discovered it was not a real company and was being used to move money in a robbery scheme.

In the meantime, Tim was heading home when he saw Laroche leaving work without his security detail. He followed in an attempt to discover where he was heading to. Eventually he discovered Laroche in an abandoned building meeting with someone. Things went awry and the man was shot. McGee tried to go after Laroche but was hit by a vehicle.

Laroche filed a complaint against McGee

Knight and Day
“Knight and Day” – Things become tense when Knight is assigned to protect his wife after the home of a high-level defense contractor is attacked, on the CBS Original series NCIS, Monday, Nov. 25 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. The team found McGee, but without evidence of Laroche’s crime, especially with the body being missing, they couldn’t prove McGee’s hunch about Laroche was correct. Plus, Laroche then filed a complaint against McGee in order to prevent him from discovering what Laroche was up to.

The robbery investigation did turn up a suspect, Crispin Shaker Jr. who had used an alias, but they still needed to determine who his partner was. With help from Jimmy sketching the man McGee saw get killed, they learned he was associated with the other robber. Plus, Laroche’s fingerprint was found on the body.

Laroche had been caught on camera removing evidence from the robbery and Tim had snuck into the van he was using to move. McGee attempted to stop them, but as Shaker began to start shooting, Laroche shot him to save McGee. Luckily, the team showed up just in time and Laroche told them it was time he told them everything. He also indicated Shaker’s pocket, where he had a computer chip hidden.

Even though it looks like Laroche is dirty, and he has done some odd things, it does look like the season finale will reveal what he has been involved with when it comes to the Nexus cartel. In the synopsis for the season finale, it looks like Parker will also get the chance to confront his long-time nemesis, Carla Morino.

This episode did a great job connecting McGee’s investigation to the overall season arc involving the Nexus cartel. Plus, it also had a fun side plot of Knight and Torres discovering their undercover wedding turned out to be real. It was all fun and games until Nick learned he couldn’t work on the team if they kept the marriage for tax purposes. We’ll see how they solve this one in the season finale, possibly!

The NCIS season 22 finale airs on Monday, May 5 at 9/8c. You can catch up on the rest of the season on Paramount+.
