Law & Order is back. The long-running procedural drama took a break for the holidays, like so many network shows, but now it has returned with an exciting new episode. "Enemy of the State" is set to air at 8/7c on NBC, but we have an exclusive sneak peek via clip.
The clip in question shows Det. Vincent Riley (Reid Scott) and Det. Jalen Shaw (Mehcad Brooks) working a case. The two men are in pursuit of whomever pushed a man in front of a train. The NBC synopsis confirms that the case ultimately gets complicated by a "piece of legislation that Baxter wrote."
Jessica Brady comes back from "vacation"
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, though. The clip sees Riley and Shaw rattling off some of the crucial information they know about the suspect. The biggest takeaway from the sneak peek is, however, the return of Jessica Brady (Maura Tierney). Brady had quite the midseason finale, as she took the stand and admitted to participating in police corruption dating back years.
The character was putting her own career in jeopardy by admitting this, but she decided to stick to her guns and stand up for what she considered to be right. There were, of course, repercussions. It is confirmed in the new clip that Brady took a leave of absence following her shocking court stint.
The sneak peek clip sees her return from this leave of absence, and directly reference. Riley and Shaw ask how her "vacation" went, and Shaw quipped that it went "fantastic." She did admit, though, that she was "glad to be back and getting paid again." In typical Brady fashion, the conversation ends there and she proceeds to get down to business, inquiring about Riley and Shaw's suspect.
The character was forced on leave without pay
Maura Tierney has adored her time on Law & Order, even though she struggles to recall the small role she had on the show back in 1991. During a November interview with Today, the actress said that she found the plot involving her character to be "convoluted" but was happy to land the gig regardless.
The reason she has enjoyed her current stint on Law & Order, though, is because she gets to play a character who is tougher and less sentimental that the roles she's usually cast in. "She's not very charming," she stated. "I usually play warmer people, which is really fun. She doesn't really care if anyone likes her."
We're excited to see where the clip, and Brady's character go during the rest of season 24.
