Chicago Med is full of emotional moments, but there was one particular season 11 scene that made Jessy Schram sob at the table read.

Chicago Med season 11 has brought fans several emotionally charged episodes this season, as well as several equally emotional moments weaved throughout the season. Take, for example, the show’s most recent episode, “Altered States,” which saw the Gaffney team working to save the life of one of their own.

The episode was filled with emotional moments as the team worked to save Dr. Charles’ life, including a number of scenes in which Charles was faced with ghosts of his past. The episode also saw those closest to him struggling with the very real fear that Charles might die without knowing how much they care for him. This episode was an emotional roller coaster ride, but we have to admit there is one other season 11 episode that certainly shook us to the core: season 11, episode 15, “The Cost of Living.”

“The Cost of Living" brought a heartbreaking end to Esme and Jeremy’s storyline this season, leading to one of the show’s most emotional episodes ever. It was an emotional episode for the fans to watch and an equally emotional one to film. As star Jessy Schram told NBC Insider, the episode moved her to tears several times through the process of filming it.

"I read it on the page, sobbed, went to the table read, sobbed, then decided to look up the song, sobbed," Schram told NBC Insider.

We met Jeremy and Esme in the very beginning of the season when the pair came through the Gaffney ED looking to get Esme checked out to ensure all was okay with their baby. During the visit, the show dropped hints that something was wrong with Jeremy, which prompted Hannah to order a scan that found he had an aggressive cancer and likely only had months to live.

As the season continued, Jeremy and Esme made several future appearances with Jeremy doing everything he could to fight to survive long enough to be there when his baby was born. That moment finally came in “The Cost of Living,” as Esme arrived at the hospital to deliver their baby.

While Hannah helped Esme get settled in and eventually would help deliver the pair’s baby, Dean took care of Jeremy, who would be admitted back into the hospital as his health declined. We learned through the episode that Jeremy had been filming videos for Esme to play for their daughter through the years, timed to various milestones in her life that he would miss.

Dean would eventually get the idea for Jeremy to steal a moment from the future by filming their father-daughter dance with a video to be played on her wedding day. The video would be the final video Jeremy would film for his daughter before his death, one in which he cradled her in his arms as “The Luckiest” by Ben Folds played as he spoke to his future daughter about his happiness in her finding the love of her life to spend the rest of her life with.

It’s honestly not surprising at all that it’s the episode that Schram revealed had her sobbing, as the episode was truly one of the show’s strongest yet. It was a truly emotional sendoff for Jeremy, one that made quite an impact on Archer, who was forced to face his own mortality as he came to terms with becoming a parent again at this later stage in his life.
