Heading into the Chicago Fire season 14 fall finale, the writers threw an unexpected curveball at fans when it was revealed that Kidd would be leaving town for a few weeks. In the sixth episode of the season, Kidd made the decision to relocate to Cleveland with Isaiah to help get his mom settled into the rehab facility operated by Goodwin’s contact.
While it’s unclear exactly how many episodes Miranda Rae Mayo will miss due to her character’s story development, it seems safe to assume that we won’t see Kidd for at least a few episodes. Among the episodes Kidd will be missing is the final episode of the year, airing on November 12, meaning we won’t see Kidd back on the show until 2026 when season 14 resumes.
We’ve accepted that Kidd would not be in the fall finale; however, it’s looking like Kidd won’t be the only character missing the final new episode of 2025.

Herrmann might not appear in the Chicago Fire season 14 fall finale
NBC has not confirmed whether David Eigenberg will appear in the Chicago Fire season 14 fall finale as Christopher Herrmann; however, all signs indicate Herrmann is going to be missing in action for the second consecutive episode.
Herrmann was one of five characters who did not appear in episode 6, and his absence came without any explanation at all. The hope was that he’d be back for the fall finale; however, there don’t seem to be any signs of Herrmann in the promotional materials for the episode. There is no mention of Herrmann in the episode synopsis, he doesn’t appear in the promo, and there is absolutely no sign of him in the fall finale photos released by NBC.
Knowing that Herrmann has not appeared in the previous episode and that there’s no hint of him anywhere in the promotional materials for the fall finale, we have a bad feeling he won’t appear in the episode. This will be a big disappointment as Herrmann is such a beloved character and we never like to see characters missing multiple episodes in a row. That said, sidelining Herrmann for the fall finale would make sense.
After Herrmann lost his house in the fire, we anticipated that he might miss a few episodes, with the show writing him out organically by having him take some time off from work. Instead, we witnessed the immediate fallout of the fire, which allowed for some emotional storylines. Now that the dust has settled a bit, the show could easily explain that Herrmann is taking some time off for personal reasons and that would make sense for why he misses the fall finale.
The good news is that regardless of whether Herrmann appears or not in the finale, he hasn’t left the show. These absences should mean that we won’t be without Herrmann in too many episodes when Chicago Fire season 14 resumes in the new year. Most series regulars miss two to four episodes per season, and we’ve already been without Herrmann for two episodes. Hopefully, this means we won’t be without Herrmann for too many episodes in the back half of the season!
