Marina Squerciati has really held down the fort when it comes to promoting Chicago PD on social media. The actress, who plays Kim Burgess, has posted lots of revelatory content from behind the scenes of the show's 12th season, be it candids or wedding dress teasers.
Nothing could have prepared us, however, for the photo she posted on Sunday, April 13. Squerciati hopped on Instagram to share a photo of her alongside not one but two former Chicago PD stars in the form of Tracy Spiridakos and Jesse Lee Soffer. Evidently, the actress paid a visit to the set of the latter's current show, FBI: International.
Marina Squerciati traveled to Budapest
"Getting the gang back together in Budapest," Squerciati wrote in the caption. "Classic." This photo is a huge deal for Chicago PD fans for multiple reasons. For one, it continues to bolster the theory that Spiridakos and Soffer are romantically involved. Soffer is in Budapest for a series, but it appears, at least, with limited information available, that Spiridakos is accompanying him.
Neither actor has addressed the dating rumors, but they have appeared on each other's social media feeds over the last year and a half, and both posted photos in similar European locations earlier in the year. Another reason the Squerciati photo is so nice to see is because it confirms that Spiridakos and Soffer still have friendships within the world of One Chicago.
These two have remained close with co-stars despite exiting the franchise, as evidenced by the fact that Soffer has returned to Chicago PD to direct episodes. This, of course, keeps the door open with regard to character returns. Soffer's Jay Halstead left PD in season 10, and Spiridakos' Hailey Upton left in season 11.
Fans want Soffer and Spiridakos PD cameos
Their presences have been missed, and given that Squerciati's character is set to get married at the end of the current season, there's a contingency of fans who are hoping to see cameo appearances from Soffer, Spiridakos, or potentially both. It would make sense, from a scheduling perspective, for Soffer.
The actor may have made the pivot to another Dick Wolf show, FBI: International, but the spinoff will be canceled after the current season. Spiridakos, meanwhile, has a role in the upcoming film Byrd and the Bees, but is not committed to a series at the moment. It would be extremely complicated to see a Halstead and Upton reunion, given where things left off between them on Chicago PD, but we'd all be lying if we didn't say we were intrigued by the possibility!
Regardless, it's always fun to see current PD stars link up with former stars.
