Mouch has had an absolutely brutal season on One Chicago (seriously)

The character has seemingly encountered death at every turn.

It doesn't come more lovable than Mouch (Christian Stolte) on Chicago Fire. He's one of the most consistent members of Firehouse 51, and his steady presence has helped to save countless lives over the last 13 seasons. 2025 has been a particularly rough period for the firefighter, though, and the latest batch of episodes has proved it.

Let's start with the One Chicago crossover. Mouch got into a spat with his wife, Chicago PD standout Trudy Platt (Amy Morton), only to discover her gunned down during a chase. The character rushed to her side in the hospital, and was forced to stand by as she flatlined and came back multiple times. It's a devastating crossover to watch from his perspective, and one we thought would serve as an outlier for the Mouch stories to come.

Mouch was involved in two near-deadly accidents

Nope. The latest episodes of Chicago Med and Chicago Fire prove this to be a grizzly pattern rather than a one off. Mouch was the firefighter who came across Dr. Mitch Ripley (Luke Mitchell), and had to act quickly to save. The doctor put his life on the line to rescue a woman and child who got stuck in a well, and nearly died as a result.

Ripley made it out of the incident alive, but severely banged up. It's going to be a while before he's ready to get back to work at Gaffney Medical Center. The hour of television that immediately came after this Med episode was darker.

Chicago Fire culminated with Monica Pascal (KaDee Strickland), the wife of Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney), dying in a devastating car accident. Who was the 51 firefighter who identified Monica, and had to make the call to his Chief to deliver the bad news? You guessed it: Mouch.

Why are Mouch and Pascal fighting?

Mouch and Pascal had exchanged some harsh words earlier in the episode a transfer, and the tense situation led to yet another argument. It was obvious that Pascal just needed someone to yell at in his moment of anguish, but did it have to be Mouch? The poor guy cannot seem to escape death or even near-death situations.

It's one thing to task the character with Chicago Fire incidents, but the fact that he popped over for the near-death of a Chicago Med standout makes it feel like an intentional pattern. We sincerely hope that Mouch gets a break during the back end of the season, and allows other 51 members to take on the dramatic stuff.

The way things currently stand with Chief Pascal, though, we doubt it will happen.
