NBC is pulling Law & Order and SVU from its schedule on November 6

Law & Order fans aren't going to like this news, as NBC's two hit Law & Order franchise dramas are getting taken off the schedule this week.

It’s not going to be a good week to be a Law & Order fan. While NBC has been airing new episodes of Law & Order season 25 and Law & Order: SVU season 27 without interruption since the seasons kicked off on September 25, that’s about to change this week.

There will be no new episode of Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU on November 6, but that’s not even the worst part of this news. Not only will there not be a new episode of either Law & Order show airing this week, but fans won’t even be able to enjoy reruns of either show. Both shows are getting pulled from the lineup entirely this week, and there’s a very good reason why.

NBC is pulling Law & Order and SVU this week for the Wicked special

As NBCUniversal gears up for the release of Wicked: For Good, NBC will be bringing fans a musical event with Wicked: One Wonderful Night airing Thursday night. To make room for the special, NBC has had to pull Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU from the schedule for the week.

Wicked: One Wonderful Night will bring together the stars of Wicked including Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang and Marissa Bode, for a 2-hour event celebrating the music of Wicked. The special will feature amazing performances from the cast as well as cast interviews, behind-the-scenes moments, and exclusive surprises including debut clips from Wicked: For Good which will give fans a glimpse at Wicked: For Good’s two original songs.

It’s a special that will be a can’t-miss event for Wicked fans, and the good news for Law & Order franchise fans is that the shows are expected to return next week with new episodes on November 10. The November 10 episode of Law & Order, in particular, is going to be a major episode as it will introduce a key new character to the cast.

Following the departure of Mehcad Brooks as Detective Jalen Shaw, Law & Order will introduce Riley’s new partner, played by David Ajala. While details about Ajala’s character are being kept under wraps, we do know that his first case with Riley will involve a high school athlete’s death.

It’s going to be exciting to see how the character is brought into the fold and what his dynamic with Riley will look like, and we’re more than ready to finally meet Ajala’s character when Law & Order returns on November 10!
