NBC has released its updated schedule which unveiled the plans for the final weeks of March, and there is a mixed bag of news for One Chicago fans.
Let’s start with the bad news. Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD are heading on yet another break. As for the good news? This break will not be a lengthy one like their most recent breaks that kept the shows off the air for several weeks.
Per the March schedule, NBC will be airing new episodes on March 18, but Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD will then head into reruns for the following week. Rather than fresh episodes, NBC will bring fans a night of encores on March 25 to close out the month before the shows return with new episodes for the first Wednesday of April.
Given that Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD are expected to wrap their seasons by May 20 and there are only seven episodes left in each show’s current season, we knew a few breaks would be coming our way in the weeks ahead. It just so happens that the first of these breaks will be coming a little earlier than we had been expecting.
As frustrating as it might be to know that the One Chicago shows are going to be taking yet another week off, we’re just relieved that NBC isn’t opting for another extended break. It’s been a choppy few months on the scheduling front.
Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD signed off on November 12 to head into their annual holiday break – a break that came earlier than expected this season. They then returned nearly two months later on January 7 for five weeks of new episodes before going on yet another break, this time due to the 2026 Winter Olympics. That break kept the shows off the air through the rest of February before they returned on March 4 for the 2026 One Chicago crossover.
The good news is that we shouldn’t see any extended breaks in the weeks ahead as we begin racing towards the current seasons of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD. And at least this break will keep the shows on air, just not with new episodes. That’s a whole lot better than when NBC pulled the One Chicago shows from the schedule entirely.
Reruns will at least allow One Chicago fans to spend time with their favorite Wednesday night shows on March 25 as they wait for the next batch of episodes on April 1.
