Chicago Med season 11, Chicago Fire season 14, and Chicago PD season 13 have been keeping fans entertained every Wednesday night since October 1 with fresh episodes coming our way weekly. Just a few short episodes into the season, the writers have been keeping fans on their toes with some major developments that have proved the One Chicago franchise shows no signs of slowing down.

The creative teams behind the shows have started the seasons off strong, and NBC has allowed that momentum to build by keeping the shows on air without a break. Unfortunately, our first break of the season is coming, and it’s coming much earlier than we expected.

Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD only have 1 new episode left in 2025

While we’ve been anticipating that a break could be coming soon with the holiday season inching closer, we were not prepared for the first break of the season to end up being one that will keep the One Chicago shows off the air through the end of 2025.

In a surprising announcement, NBC announced that the November 12 episodes of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD will be the fall finales. After the episodes air, all three shows will head into what is going to be an extended break that will keep the shows off the air until January 2026.

NBC has not yet confirmed when the shows will be back in January, but we’re expecting they’ll return Wednesday, January 7, 2026. That would be in line with NBC’s winter premiere timeline for the 2024-25 season, which saw the shows return on January 8, 2025.

It’s far from unusual for the shows to take a break in the fall as broadcast networks typically avoid airing new episodes around the holidays, opting for reruns and holiday programming instead to fill the night. What is unusual is that the One Chicago fall finales are coming so early in the month, as the shows tend to remain on air until late November or even early December.

Instead, it seems that NBC felt it better to send them on a break a bit early this year, airing just seven episodes of each One Chicago show before taking the shows off the air until 2026. The good news is that this extended break for the holidays should prevent a longer break in the spring, but the bad news is that we will have to go the rest of 2025 without new One Chicago Wednesdays. Thankfully, we can always enjoy past episodes of the shows on Peacock, which is home to all seasons of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD.
