Even though the Monday, Jan. 27 episode of NCIS: Origins focused more on Mike Franks than Gibbs, we still got a glimpse into what may eventually come for the agent. Plus, we also know since Christmas has already passed, that 1992 is the year that Gibbs met Diane, his second wife. Will there be love in the air for Gibbs before she comes along?
In the episode, Randy mentioned to Gibbs that his wife had a friend named Amanda if he was interested in going on a double date. However, it was clear from the look on Gibbs’s face that her wasn’t remotely ready to date anyone. But at the same time, we also know he will eventually meet Diane Sterling, whom he married soon after, although we don’t know specifics of how long they were together.

The episode also hinted that there may be some feelings Lala has when it comes to Gibbs possibility dating. They are co-workers and she does care about him, but are there feelings there? Even if Lala did feel something for him, it’s a boundary Gibbs would later say should not be crossed. It was one of his rules to never date a co-worker. Is his experience with Lala the reason for this rule?
In an interview with TVInsider, showrunners Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North only teased that we would “find out more” about Lala and her relationship with Gibbs. But he also talked about how viewers could see the “chemistry between Gibbs and Lala and Austin and Mariel on camera.” However, because he is still grieving a huge loss, whatever he is feeling for Lala is not something that sits well with him.
Gibbs' relationship with Lala is developing

So while we won’t know what Lala’s connection with Gibbs is for a while at least, we do know from the interview that the showrunners are keeping a close eye on Gibbs’s love life in order to “stick to what canon says.”
Depending on how long the show runs for, we could very well see a few of Gibbs’s wives. However, just seeing at least one and how Gibbs was able to find love again, however brief, will be a ride we’ll enjoy taking with the crew.
Even though we don’t know when we will meet Diane yet, we’re excited to follow Gibbs as he comes into his own as an agent.
NCIS: Origins airs Mondays on CBS at 10/9c.
