NCIS and NCIS: Origins are about to take an extended hiatus at CBS this March

Get ready NCIS fans because March is going to be a rough one for the franchise with a long break ahead.

We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the upcoming weeks are going to be a rough few weeks for NCIS franchise fans. This is because all three NCIS shows will be taking longer breaks this season beginning with NCIS and NCIS: Origins which head into their latest hiatus on March 10 and will be off air for a few weeks before their next new episodes finally air.

As confirmed via CBS’s schedule, NCIS and NCIS: Origins will be taking a 2-week break and will not air a new episode until the final week of the month. Sadly, there’s more bad news for the franchise as the first week of the hiatus will see NCIS pulled from the schedule entirely as CBS makes room for its new 2-hour special Ringo & Friends at The Ryman. This new special will air from 8 - 10 p.m. ET on CBS on March 10 which is bumping CBS’s normal programming including NCIS, though NCIS: Origins fans can still enjoy a rerun of the show at 10 p.m. following the special.

On St. Patrick’s Day, CBS’s entire lineup will be in rerun modes which means that fans can at least enjoy an episode of NCIS and NCIS: Origins on March 17, just not new episodes. That will be the second and final week in the shows’ latest break with the current seasons of each show returning on March 24 with fresh episodes for NCIS and NCIS: Origins.

March will be an interesting month in general for the NCIS franchise shows. Not only will NCIS and NCIS: Origins be heading into an extended hiatus taking a 2-week break in the middle of the month, but NCIS: Sydney will also be taking some time off in the back half of the month.

After airing a new episode on Friday, March 14 alongside new episodes of Fire Country and SWAT, NCIS: Sydney will be pulled from CBS’s schedule along with its fellow Friday night shows for what might be a longer break than what we’ll see with NCIS and NCIS: Origins.

It’s March which means March Madness time. Given CBS is the official home to coverage of the annual tournament, CBS viewers will once again see their favorite shows taking some time off to make way for NCAA Men’s Basketball coverage. The March Madness coverage will begin impacting CBS’s Friday night shows on March 21 when the network turns over its primetime block to NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship First Round coverage. The following Friday, CBS will again preempt its Friday night scripted shows for NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Regional Semifinal coverage.

Beyond March 28, it’s unclear whether CBS will keep NCIS: Sydney, Fire Country, and SWAT on break until April.

The one good news is that you can always enjoy some classic NCIS episodes on Paramount+ while you wait for new episodes to resume and once we hit April, there should be fewer breaks as we enter the final stretch of the season heading into May and finale season.
