NCIS: Origins aired the fall finale episode for season 2 and it was a doozy. The tension between Gibbs and Lala came to a head as Herm was given the chance to go back into the field and there may be trouble brewing with the compound where Franks’s brother, Mason, is living.
The episode focused on one of Lala’s CI’s, and her favorite, Tony being shot and calling her for help. We learned that Lala would cultivate relationships with all of her CI’s, but he became like a brother to her. She even gave him her old watch so he would know he always her someone in his corner.
When Tony called her for help, Lala was distraught to find out someone hurt him. She cared deeply for him and was ready to find out who had shot him. One suspect emerged when a man came in to check on him, but Lala saw the watch she gave Tony on his wrist. At first, she truly believed he was the shooter.
However, once a drawing was done of the man in question, Gibbs recognized him from a fight at a warehouse he and Randy had been part of. They managed to confront the man but he turned out to be an undercover DEA agent.

Lala takes the shooting of her favorite CI personally as Gibbs deals with heartbreak
The agent told Lala he was deep undercover and that’s why he ran from her. It turned out that being undercover for so long was hard on him and Tony had given him the watch so he would have someone in his corner, like Lala did for him. This was Tony’s way of paying it forward.
Eventually, the team learned that pieces from a notebook were embedded in the bullet that they pulled from his body. It was likely a notebook he used to make notes to give to Lala, but now they don’t know where it is. Then they got a clue from the DEA agent, who said it was in the safest place Tony knew.
It turned out he hid the notebook in the safehouse Lala first took him to. One of the names was the lead detective on the case of his shooting. Fields had been accepting money to look the other way when it came to street fights. She figured out Tony had likely written about her in his notebook and shot him in an attempt to get to it. However, Tony had hidden the real notebook where no one could find it.
As the episode progressed, we also saw Herm get to be in the field for the first time since he froze during an old case. With Randy’s help, he was able to help during a shootout while looking for their original suspect.
In a flip from their partnership, Lala and Gibbs also had some issues, especially since Gibbs avoided telling her about his breakup with Diane. It happened when Diane got a job opportunity in Los Angeles and Gibbs had been reluctant to do long distance relationships. Lala accused Gibbs of not going after what he wants once again, bringing up how he had ruined something possible for the two of them.
However, in the end, Gibbs decided to call Diane, but not before she appeared on his doorstep. Neither of them actually wanted to break up and ended up having a night celebrating getting back together. That night of celebration ended with them deciding to go to Las Vegas and eloping.
So now we know how they ended up tying the knot, and it’s only a matter of time before we see how their relationship will eventually lead to a divorce. Plus, with Lala in the picture, how does that affect their relationship now that Gibbs is married?
In addition to the case, the episode also focused on Mike visiting his brother, Mason. However, despite Mike trying to help his brother with a horse, it’s clear the two of them still didn’t see eye to eye. Plus, Mike also began to feel suspicious about one of the young men in the compound, Stanley.
His suspicions appeared to be justified in the end when we saw the same kid walk into a building that would later explode. Is this something he did on his own, or is there more to the facility than no one knows?
NCIS: Origins is finished for the rest of 2025, but it will return with new episodes on Tuesday, February 23, 2026. In the meantime, you can watch previous episodes on Paramount+.
