NCIS opened the newest episode with a surprising scene. Agent Jessica Knight was on a stakeout with the B-shift’s Agent Sawyer when they were suddenly attacked by none other than Agent Nick Torres. What exactly happened, and what led to this situation?
It all started when the team began investigating the death of Petty Officer Steven Keogh, who was killed soon after his wife left following a rough patch in their marriage. The team discovered there were photos of Keogh sleeping with an unknown woman on his phone.
Sawyer ended up being involved when the investigation revealed Keogh had been being blackmailed over the photos, similar to other Navy men. One of them had slept with the woman in his grandmother’s van. They got a DNA match to a woman named Olga, who had been part of the scheme.
NCIS manages to give off spooky vibes while also putting one agent in harm's way
Olga was also afflicted by whatever had killed Keogh and another man, Arben Bardhi, who had gotten Keogh to steal the weapon, but was then later killed.
After returning from the scene of the crime, Torres began to experience headaches, bad enough for Jimmy to give him some medication and send him home. However, instead, he ended up wandering to the stakeout Sawyer and Knight were on, attacking the car with a bat. Eventually, they were able to subdue him and figured out that Torres and the other victims were suffering from the aftereffects of being taken down by sound waves lower than 20 Hertz.
The investigation determined Keogh had been blackmailed into stealing a prototype of a long-range acoustic device. The blackmailer turned out to be a man named Dave, who ran a bar known as Hairy David, where Keogh and other Petty Officers would stop in for drinks.
Dave had worked Bardhi in the scheme and then used the device to take out his competition. The team was able to track him down and get the weapon back before it could be sold.
This was a spooky but interesting case that showcased the bond and friendship between Jessica and Nick. It showed that sometimes friendship is strong enough that if anyone threatens it, feelings of jealousy can crop up. Overall, this was an excellent episode that focused on Nick and Jessica after the opener gave time to wrap up Parker’s story with his father.
Also in the episode, Parker was back on his own time, and we also saw Jessica, Jimmy, and Kasie agree to give him time before telling him about not only his mother's death certificate, but that someone else was with his dad before he passed.
To continue with the theme of being spooky, the team also learned about a ghost named Henry who appeared only at night. Knight and Torres even acknowledge the ghost as they are leaving work for the day.
There was plenty of lightheartedness in the case, even when Torres’s life was impacted due to the nature of the weapon he had been hit with unknowingly. It was a good night of television for the team, and we’re looking forward to what they get up to in the next episode.
NCIS airs on CBS Tuesdays at 8/7c. New episodes are available to stream on Paramount+.
