Netflix has given Chicago Fire fans a new reason to check out its upcoming Little House on the Prairie reboot!
Ahead of the season 1 premiere of Netflix’s new adaptation of the beloved classic, Deadline has reported that Little House on the Prairie has added actress Charlotte Sullivan to the cast as a series regular. Sullivan joins the cast in the role of Margaret Oleson, mother of Nellie Oleson, who is described as “beautiful, high-energy, charming, unfiltered, fun, and funny, with a quick wit and gallows humor." Margaret absolutely adores her daughter but also carries a very strong fear of losing her, hinting that she might be a bit overprotective of Nellie.
Now, it does sound like we won’t get to meet Sullivan’s character in the first season of the show, as she has been cast for the show’s second season, which is already in production ahead of the show’s debut, but there will be another Chicago Fire alum whose performance fans can enjoy in season 1!
The season 1 cast includes fellow Chicago Fire alum Warren Christie, who appears in the first season in the role of John Edwards. John is a Civil War veteran from Tennessee who has a mysterious air about him that draws the attention of every single woman in the county… and some of the married ones as well.
Christie and Sullivan both had short-lived but memorable runs in the early days of Chicago Fire, and both stars have certainly kept busy after their runs on NBC’s firefighter drama came to an end.
Sullivan recurred across the fifth season of Chicago Fire, playing Anna Turner, who was a romantic interest to Taylor Kinney’s character, Kelly Severide. Severide and Anna began dating after he donated bone marrow to her, but their relationship ended in tragedy when Anna succumbed to her leukemia in the season 5 episode, “Carry Me.”
Christie’s Chicago Fire character was also closely linked to Severide. In the third season of Chicago Fire, Christie starred as Scott Rice, an old friend of Severide who landed a spot on Squad 3. Scott’s time at Firehouse 51 did not last long, though, after he ran away from a fire during a call. He’d come to admit to Severide that since the passing of his wife, he was terrified of dying in a fire and making his son an orphan. While Severide was understanding of Scott’s fears, he had no choice but to let him go from Squad 3.
It's always fun to see Chicago Fire alums book new shows, and with Little House on the Prairie season 1 dropping during Chicago Fire's latest summer break, the show is a perfect choice for fans looking for a new show to enjoy this July! With the show already renewed for season 2, you can also head into your Little House on the Prairie watch knowing that the show won't be a one-and-done drama.
