We knew that it was going to be difficult to say goodbye to LaRoyce Hawkins, but now that his departure is just days away, it’s all starting to really sink in. Although Chicago PD season 14 has just begun, Hawkins’ time on the show is drawing to a close as the second episode of the season will serve as his final episode as a series regular on the show.

Over the summer, NBC kept the details of Hawkins’ exit under wraps, but now that the season has begun and his final episode is slated to land on October 14, the network has finally ramped up its promotional efforts. Following the premiere, NBC dropped a promo for the second episode, which offered up a look at Atwater and Tasha together with their newborn son and hinted that Atwater will choose to walk away from the CPD in order to put his family first.

Now, NBC has debuted the first photos from Hawkins’ final episode, giving fans a new look at Atwater’s last episode of Chicago PD.

As we know from the episode synopsis, Atwater will reach a significant turning point, which will prompt him to make a big decision about his future. The expectation is that something is going to happen to Atwater or another member of the team in the line of duty, which will then prompt him to choose to walk away from the police department, realizing that he no longer wants to work in a field in which his life is now on the line every day now that he’s a father.

While the photos for the episode don’t give away much in terms of offering up a glimpse at a particularly concerning moment, the photos do seem to suggest that Atwater’s longtime friend and colleague will be by his side in the field on this case. In one photo (seen below), we can see Atwater and Ruzek walking side by side out in the field, both donning their full protective gear, suggesting that perhaps this scene might unfold just before things get intense in pursuit of their suspect.

A second photo shows the duo along with Burgess, Torres, and Voight in the Intelligence bullpen, watching or reading something on Burgess’ computer. Could it be that she finds a lead during her research that then prompts Voight to send Ruzek and Atwater out to follow the lead? Given that the pair are wearing the same outfits in both of these photos, it’s clear these scenes will take place on the same day.

Our final two photos are solo shots of Atwater out in the field, presumably from the beginning of the episode. In both photos we can see that Atwater is at the crime scene with the crime scene tape cordoning off the area. One photo shows Atwater standing beside a man in cuffs (below), while a second shows Atwater communicating over his radio with a concerned look painted on his face (above).

NBC was definitely strategic with its photo choices for the episode, as they don’t give too much away. That said, we appreciate that they at least offered up a few new photos for fans to enjoy ahead of Hawkins’ exit from the show. And who knows, maybe one of these photos holds a bigger clue than it lets on!

Don’t miss LaRoyce Hawkins’ final episode of Chicago PD on Wednesday, October 14, at 10/9c on NBC.
