NCIS: Origins has a new trailer for Season 2, and while it does not reveal the fate of Cecilia “Lala” Dominguez (Mariel Molino), things are not looking good.  The trailer was debuted on Entertainment Weekly and gave a glimpse into what is happening with the team going forward.

Fans may recall that when the Season 1 finale aired, Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) was being investigated for the murder of Pedro Hernandez. When Lala pleaded with Lara Macy not to continue the case by implicating herself, she was on her way to inform Gibbs when she was involved in a car accident.

Now, the trailer makes it look like she is no longer with the team. A voiceover from Mark Harmon reveals that “the job wasn’t right without her.” It looks like Gibbs will also make at least one mistake on the job and in a later clip, an angry Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid) says he wants the team back to how it had been before.

There was a small, lighter moment in the clip when Bernard “Randy” Randolf is seen jamming at work. This shows that he might still provide some lightheartedness to what seems to be a possible devastating loss. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Lala died in the accident.

NCIS: Origins season 2 trailer still mum on what happened to Lala

It’s possible that Lala sustained injuries that prevented her from being able to work as an agent again. Or she could be comatose, which would still be difficult for the team not to have her around.

The teaser also showed a clip of Gibbs shirtless as the young version of Diane Sterling (Kathleen Kenny) kisses his cheek. Gibbs met her at the end of the season 1 finale when she showed up as a real estate agent to look at his home.

Entertainment Weekly had spoken with David J. North about Lala’s fate and how it impacts Gibbs, saying “We’ve all dealt with this story of tragedy in our own lives in different ways. And as tough as it is to see, it’s genuine and certainly a part of what we’re learning is what made Gibbs.”

It’s likely that the news of Lala’s accident will impact Gibbs since he will learn she was on her way to his house. There will likely be some guilt there and could ultimately be one of the reasons he never spoke about her in the future.

NCIS: Origins Season 2 premieres Tuesday, October 14 at 9/8c. You can find previous episodes on Paramount+.
