New SWAT promo confirms return of this beloved character

SWAT has a new episode called "Deep Cover," which follows a Squad 20 team member going under cover as a recurring character returns in the form of Lou Ferrigno Jr.
“Twenty Squad” – SWAT faces their deadliest adversary yet when a violent cell of extremists looks to extract vengeance by blowing up half of Los Angeles, potentially killing thousands. Still reeling from the anger and outrage directed at him by his own community, Hondo questions if he still has what it takes to lead 20-Squad, adding to the fear that he won’t be able to pull the team together in time to save the city, on the seventh season finale of the CBS Original series S.W.A.T., Friday, May

A new episode of SWAT is approaching and we actually got a promo for the new episode. Most of the time, the promos at the end of the episodes appeared to show clips from previous installments, so it was a nice surprise to see some new clips. Plus, one clip indicated the return of a character who has been seen on and off since season 1.

While the show focuses on Squad 20, we’ve gotten to know other SWAT members at headquarters, including Sergeant Donovan Rocker, played by Lou Ferrigno Jr. He last appeared in a season 7 episode so it will be fun to see how he is part of the upcoming storyline.

Reckoning
“Reckoning” – As the team works to stop a violent attack on the city, they’re forced to confront the group responsible for the death of team member, Erika Rogers. Also, Hondo and Leroy disagree on how to handle a challenge to Darryl’s fledgling business, and Luca tries to recruit new TEMS officer Nora Fowler for an annual inter-squad competition, on S.W.A.T., Wednesday, April 21 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.Pictured (L-R): Lou Ferrigno Jr. as Rocker | Sonja Flemming

Donovan Rocker returns in season 8

Many fans have been looking forward to seeing his return since his (hopefully brief) departure from ABC’S 9-1-1. Whether we get the chance to see him back on that series, getting more of Rocker on SWAT is always fun, especially with the teasing that comes with other teams' rivalry against Squad 20. So how is Rocker involved with the next episode’s upcoming storyline?

In the synopsis for “Deep Cover,” it appears Squad 20 team member Miguel Alfaro will be dealing with an undercover assignment that leads to him having to reawaken a previous undercover persona. The episode will delve into Alfaro’s past, making this an episode that will give us more insight into the newest member of the team

From the clips we saw in the promo, it looks like Rocker joins Victor Tan on a stakout, likely due to whatever they are investigating, if it is in relation to Alfaro’s mission.

With new team members on Squad 20, it’s always nice to learn more about them. There have been plenty of episodes focused on Zoe Powell and Devin Gamble, so having Alfaro as the focus will be interesting to watch.

Sergeant Rooker was last seen in season 7

Open Season
“Open Season” – 20-Squad must race to uncover a dangerous enemy intent on revenge. Also, Deacon and Tan butt heads over Tan’s changes to SWAT academy, on S.W.A.T., Friday, Jan. 31 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+. Series star Jay Harrington directs. Pictured (L-R): Patrick St. Esprit as Commander Robert Hicks, Shemar Moore as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson and Jay Harrington as David "Deacon" Kay. This season of SWAT has been exciting to watch and while the synopsis does not reveal much about anyone else, we are looking forward to seeing the upcoming storylines for everyone. Gamble has a lot to prove with an investigation going on into her involvement with her family.

Plus, the actress who plays Victor Tan’s girlfriend, Olivia, has a new role on the CBS series FBI, so what happens with their relationship is up in the air. It is possible the show could do the same thing they did with Hondo’s wife, Nichelle, and just have her as a background character who we don’t see as much as the regular cast members.

Regardless, the rest of season 8 will be fun to watch with all of the different storylines we’re looking forward to.

New episodes of SWAT air Fridays on CBS at 10/9c. All past episodes can be found on Paramount+.
