Replacing Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) was never going to be easy. The character was a Chicago Fire anchor, a veteran who had been present since the pilot. Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) has done an admirable job, though. He's maintained the same honorable status as his predecessor, but he definitely goes about things in a different way.
We have definitely gotten to know Pascal better over the course of season 13. We have seen him gel with characters like Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) and clash with characters like his ex-wife, Monica (KaDee Strickland). The One Chicago crossover is going to be make or break for Pascal, though. It'll be an opportunity to really set himself apart as a man of action.
Chief Pascal is a crucial crossover character

Pascal is not afraid to do what's necessary, but the One Chicago crossover is poised to give him the biggest threat he's ever seen on the job. It's going to be absolute chaos throughout the three hour event, and Pascal is going to be in the trenches alongside some of the most beloved characters in franchise history.
The promo for the crossover shows that Pascal will be working alongside Severide, who will be an emotional wreck due to the precarious situation that his wife, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), will be put in. Furthermore, Pascal will be forced to contend with the equally stubborn and strong presences of Chicago Med's Dean Archer (Steven Weber) and Chicago PD's Hank Voight (Jason Beghe).
He will help to rescue Stella Kidd and Adam Ruzek
That's a lot of machismo and arrogance on display, so it's going to do a lot for our faith in Pascal if he is able to navigate things. He's also going to be put in charge of rescuing Stella Kidd, someone he has gotten along with from a distance. One of the most chilling parts in the entire promo is when Pascal asks Kidd if she reads him. Dead silence on the other end, which could mean the worst.
It would be silly to doubt Dermot Mulroney's acting ability. He's been around for decades, and worked with some of the biggest film and TV stars of all time. He knows what he's doing. What's so exciting in the case of the One Chicago crossover, though, is that Mulroney will get a chance to show us what his character is all about, when it really counts.
