One Chicago producer likens 2025 crossover event to 'three-hour action movie'
2025 is going to be the year for One Chicago fans. We have been waiting to see all three shows link up for a crossover event, and showrunners have been teasing plans for something big. We now have confirmation that Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD will be joining forces for a connected story arc on January 29.
We're about two months out from the crossover, but we already have a decent amount of information on the emergency that will bring all three franchise titles together. NBC released an official synopsis, which reveals that there will be gas explosion in a high rise building, and hundreds of civilians will be at risk.
Anastasia Puglisi hyped up the crossover's "ambition"
Chicago Fire's Firehouse 51 will be helping clear out the high rise, but the synopsis stated that there will be "calamity beneath the surface," in which 40 people will be trapped underground. It's a premise right out of an action movie, which is exactly what executive producer Anastasia Puglisi likened it to.
Puglisi, the executive vice president of Wolf Entertainment, claimed that the upcoming One Chicago crossover will be the most cinematic that the franchise has ever rolled out. "Putting together what is essentially a three-hour action movie is an incredibly ambitious task," she wrote. "Requiring complete coordination across our writers, casts, crews, and producers, along with help from the city."
It wouldn't be an epic crossover event, of course, without high stakes. And NBC has assured fans that this will be a dangerous affair for the main casts of all three One Chicago shows. The synopsis states that "two of their own" will be at risk, along with the aforementioned 40 people trapped underground.
A pair of One Chicago characters will be in danger
It can already be difficult to determine which characters will be at risk in one of the One Chicago shows, but it's nearly impossible to determine which characters between all three ensembles. It's more likely that a Fire or PD character will be on the ground, trying to help people, but there's also instances in which one of the doctors from Chicago Med could find themselves in an unorthodox situation.
Puglisi praised the cast and crew behind the crossover event, noting that it would not have been possible without their efforts. "We’re thrilled to have the best talent in every department to meet this challenge," she noted. "And provide our fans with a unique and compelling viewing experience."
