Chicago Fire season 14, episode 12, “Coming in Hot,” promises to be an intense episode that is sure to have fans on the edge of their seats.
The episode will see Chief Pascal coming under intense scrutiny after a member of the Firehouse 51 team is injured while responding to a call. The exact extent of their injury and the identity of the injured firefighter has been kept a mystery so far, but a new interview with star Joe Minoso seems to hint that it will be Tony who is injured on the call.
While speaking with TV Insider about the episode, which will see Cruz serving as acting lieutenant of Squad 3, Minoso seemed to hint that Cruz will be separated from Capp and Tony during the call, but played coy with whether he finds them.
“I will say that we’re in the middle of rescuing a lot of people in this giant maze. Yes, I get separated from the two of them, and we’ll see if I make it in time to find them or not.”
Of course, what is concerning is that the promo for the episode saw Cruz searching for someone in the fire. He eventually spots another firefighter off in the distance as the promo cuts to the roof collapsing, seemingly on top of the other firefighter as we hear the words “firefighter down” come through on the radio to Chief Pascal outside.
He went on to say that Cruz will “feel a deeper level of responsibility toward his men and everyone in the company because he has to make some of the tough calls.” This seems to suggest that Cruz is going to be central to the storyline and that it’s one of his men who is injured on the call.
Given the hint that Cruz is separated from Tony and Capp during the call and will feel a deeper level of responsibility, this suggests that it’ll be one of Squad 3’s longtime members who is injured on the call. A deeper investigation of the promotional materials for the episode finds that Capp appears in a number of photos alongside Cruz as the pair wait with Pascal in the Gaffney ER waiting area. The one character we don’t see in any of those photos is Tony, which suggests that it will be Tony who is injured on the call.
This would be a major moment should Tony indeed be the one injured, and will be a moment that is sure to send shockwaves through the fandom. Tony has been a staple on the show since the beginning and it’s always nerve-racking when a beloved member of the Firehouse 51 family is injured in the line of duty.
There have been no indications that Tony will be leaving the show, which is the silver lining to this storyline as we cannot imagine the show without him. Still, Chicago Fire has been known to surprise us so we’ll have to wait until the episode concludes to know with certainty what the future holds.
