After what felt like an endless break, Chicago Fire finally returned to NBC with the first episode of season 12 which wasted no time at all in turning up the heat and giving fans plenty of developments to process!

Warning: The following post contains spoilers from the season 12 premiere, so proceed with caution if you haven't yet had the chance to watch the first episode of the new season.

Things get steamy between Kidd and Severide

Right out of the gate, Chicago Fire wasted no time in turning up the heat and no, we're not talking about a fire! The season opened with a steamy shower scene between Kidd and Severide that had Stellaride fans blushing and shouting OMG at their TVs!

Mouch is alive, but the fakeout had fans panicking

Of course, the excitement over Severide's return was almost dashed when the show faked us out over Mouch in a scene that had us fearing the worst. As we headed back to 51, a visiting firefighter began to pull the tape off Mouch's locker which prompted Herrmann to jump them for removing Mouch's name. At first, we feared that Mouch hadn't made it but then in walked Mouch ready to return to action after his recovery!

Brett said yes to Casey's proposal!

The good news just kept coming in the season opener! After Severide made his return and it was confirmed that Mouch was alive and well, Chicago Fire clued fans in on Brett's answer to Casey's proposal and it's great news: She said yes!

That's right, a Brettsey wedding is coming and fans absolutely lost their minds!

Gallo is leaving and our hearts are broken

While the premiere was full of exciting developments, it also brought with it some heartbreaking news. At the top of the premiere, it was confirmed that Gallo was leaving Chicago to move to Detroit to be closer to family he never realized he had.

We're so happy for Gallo to finally be able to be with family after the heartbreaking loss of his parents and sister when he was just a kid, but nothing could have prepared us for the heartbreaking goodbye that came with Gallo's exit.

Kylie is officially a firefighter candidate!

Season 12 seems to be the season of new beginnings and this includes for Kylie who has officially become a firefighter candidate! In the premiere, we get to see Kylie suited up in her full gear during a sweet scene in which she drops by 51 and our hearts swelled up with joy seeing Kylie so close to achieving her dream of becoming a firefighter!

Chicago Fire airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC!
