Blue Bloods has a lengthy history to pull from when it comes to past characters. The show has been on the air for fourteen years, and is gearing up for its finale, so it only seems right that it pulls some familiar faces from the past.

The upcoming episode "Fear No Evil" will feature a tribute to a deceased cast member, Treat Williams, who played the former partner of Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). Williams appeared in a six episodes as the complicated ex-cop Lenny Ross, but the main cast will not be the only characters on hand to pay their respects.

According to TV Line, Blue Bloods is going to bring back Lenny's daughter, Tess Ross (Simone Policano), to deal with the emotional fallout of Lenny's passing. Tess plays such a crucial role in fact, that she's mentioned in the official synopsis for the episode:

"Frank grapples with the personal loss of his best friend and how best to help Tess Ross, the daughter of his best friend, when she lands in jail. Also, Jaime and his nephew, Joe Hill (Will Hochman), race against the clock to reunite a trafficking victim with her sister."

Tess has not had the easiest life since she last appeared on Blue Bloods, as evidenced by the fact that she's behind bars. She made her series debut in the season 10 episode, "The Real Deal", and her most recent appearance was in the season 13 episode 'Irish Exits", which turned out to be Williams' last turn as Ross.

Tom Selleck told USA Today that the episode will balance the storylines of the other characters with the Williams tribute, as it was important to the showrunners to provide the usual Blue Bloods thrills:

"It will be an unsentimental tribute to Treat Williams that's not a maudlin hourlong show."

The fallout of Lenny Ross' death will not be a one-and-done storyline, however. On IMDb, Simone Policano is slated to appear in "Fear No Evil" and the subsequent episode, "Past is Present", which suggests that she will develop a stronger bond with Frank Reagan than ever before.

We're curious to see how the two characters navigate the death of such a complicated figure, and what it means for both of them moving forward.

"Fear No Evil" will air Friday, March 1 at 10/9c on CBS.
