Blue Bloods refuses to go quitely. The procedural drama was not renewed for another season by CBS, but its popularity continues to soar in the light of rumors that the network will change its mind. The ratings for the latest Blue Bloods episode, "Past Is Present", bears this out.

According to TV Line, Blue Bloods was the most-watched television show on Friday, March 15. It pulled in a staggering 5.5 million viewers with a 0.4 rating demo, which managed to topple other popular shows like S.W.A.T. (4.7 million viewers) and Fire Country (5.1 million viewers).

Blue Bloods topped the Friday night ratings

Happy Endings
“Happy Endings” – Business becomes personal for Frank and his 1 Police Plaza team when Baker is assaulted on the street, as well as for Erin, when she asks her ex-husband, Jack Boyle (Peter Hermann), to represent a defendant she’s prosecuting. Also, Eddie wonders if she’s being too stubborn after she publicly undermines one of Jamie’s decisions at work, and Danny and Baez investigate the attempted murder of a couple with huge secrets, on BLUE BLOODS, Friday, April 16 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on /

The impressive ratings have coincided with the very public statements Blue Bloods stars have been making about the planned cancelation, and how much they want to continue making the show. Tom Selleck has been arguably the most vocal in this regard, and he's continued to discuss it in every interview he gives!

This was evident most recently during Selleck's chat with USA Today. The actor singled out the power of the Reagan dinner table scenes, and credited them with keeping fans emotionally invested for the decade and a half they've been watching.

The real eye-catching statement came when Selleck was asked about the show's future, however. He made it crystal clear that he did not want to hang up the mantle of Frank Reagan, and was willing to do whatever it took to keep the Blue Bloods franchise going:

"I love the role. And he's not done. I'm not done. And I think there's plenty of room for the show."

Multiple stars want to return for season 15

The rumors surrounding a possible renewal really picked up steam when franchise co-star Donnie Wahlberg appeared on the SiriusXM show Andy Cohen Live and suggested that Blue Bloods may not be canceled after all.

After repeatedly using words like "allegedly" and "reportedly", Wahlberg stated:

"There are rumblings [it isn’t], so we’ll see what happens."

If Blue Bloods continues to dominate the Friday night ratings the way it has been, we imagine CBS would have to go back to the drawing board and reconsider bringing show back for a fifteenth and possibly even sixteenth season. They reversed a cancelation on the aforementioned S.W.A.T., so there's a precedent to keep in mind.

All we can do, in the meanwhile, is keep watching.
