Blue Bloods is winding down. We think, at least. Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg have stressed how much they want to continue making the show, and CBS did just reverse the cancelation for SWAT, but as of right now, season 14 will be the end of the line for the Reagan clan. And we've got details on how it's all going to go down.

For starters, the fall finale is going to air on Friday, May 17th. The second half of the season is slated to come out in the fall, which will include the series finale. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, though. The fall finale, titled "The Heart of a Saturday Night," will feature a special guest appearance from Aidan Quinn.

The actor, best known for his roles in films like Desperately Seeking Susan (1985) and Legends of the Fall (1994), as well as the mystery series Elementary, will play a veteran cop within the NYPD. He's the kind of cop of continues investigating off the clock, and he runs afoul of Wahlberg's Danny Reagan when a case involving a rapist doesn't go his way.

The synopsis for the episode really places the emphasis on Quinn's character, who is named Vanderlip. Check it out in full below:

" Danny and Gormley race to find Gus Vanderlip, a committed detective who is dangerously determined to uncover how a rapist he arrested is back on the streets."

Past Is Present
“Past Is Present” – Danny reunites with a troublesome teenager from a past case when the youth finds herself in danger. Also, Frank faces a difficult personnel decision close to home; Jamie grows suspicious when Henry is asked to be interviewed for an investigative Web series; and Erin and Anthony investigate when Erin is the alleged target of a shooting, on BLUE BLOODS, Friday, March 15 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for /

Sounds like a winner to us. The current season of Blue Bloods has been reliant on bringing back guest stars and cast members from the past, which makes sense given that it may very well be the final season.

Bringing in a newcomer like Quinn, however, is a nice change of pace. We know nothing about the character of Vanderlip, and so whatever story the writers decide to throw at us will be a surprise. It'll also bring out different reactions from the likes of Danny and the aforementioned Gormley (Robert Clohessy).

The fact that Quinn's character is being saved for the fall finale leads us to believe that he will play a crucial role in how Blue Bloods wraps up. We can't wait to find out the details.
