Blue Bloods is inching closer and closer to its season 14 premiere, and with each days seemingly comes new details about the storyline. Fans have already been made aware that season 14 will be the end of the road for the Reagan family, so the interest has turned towards what will become of them as they gear up for the conclusion of a decade and a half story.

Well, according to TV Insider, part of the Reagan family saga will consist of an undercover mission. It's been a while since fans have gotten to see one of the family members put their lives on the line in an undercover capacity, but that's exactly what will happen with Jamie Reagan (Will Estes).

“Behind the Smile” â€" Frank's esteem for an old friend and late socialite proves to be a mistake when her son threatens to publicly reveal who she really was. Also, Jamie asks Erin for help apprehending a perp who shot at him after learning she chose not to send him to prison six months ago; Eddie clashes with her new boss, Sergeant McNichols (Stephanie Kurtzuba); and Danny drags Baez into a case involving a suspicious grieving couple, on BLUE BLOODS, Friday, Oct. 11 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) /

The outlet revealed that Jamie will be going undercover to infiltrate a new criminal named Hader (Aaron Abrams). This sheds some light on the set photos that fans had previously seen of Jamie, which featured him sporting tattoos, a beard, and a generally rougher fashion sense than usual.

Estes has talked about the desire to experiment and try different things with his character in recent years, and an undercover mission is the perfect outlet for these different experimentations. Not much has been revealed about Hader as a character, or how much he will factor into season 14 as a whole, but Aaron Abrams is an engaging TV presence, as evidenced by his stints on

As far as what Estes hopes for long term, the actor explained to Looper that he's looking forward to wrapping up Blue Bloods on an emotionally satisfying note. He did, however, make a point of keeping the specifics of the show's finale under wraps:

""I've thought about it personally, because I've been on the show for so long, but I haven't thought about it much creatively. I don't know what that will look like creatively. I do hope we get a chance to... wrap things up and watch these characters walk off into the sunset, so to speak, when the show goes down.""

There's been some chatter from fans that Jamie has been kind of stuck in place in recent seasons, especially when it comes to his relationship with Janko (Vanessa Ray), so we hope that the storyline involving his undercover mission helps to resolve this issue and reinvent the character heading into the home stretch of the show.
