Chicago Med is about to welcome back a familiar face, just not in front of the camera. Deadline has revealed that Brian Tee will be coming back to NBC's medical drama but not to reprise his role as Dr. Ethan Choi. Instead, Tee will be coming back to the One Chicago family as a director!

Following his exit from the show in season 8, Tee will be returning to Chicago Med to direct the eleventh episode of the show's current ninth season. At this time, little is known about the storyline for the episode but it has been confirmed that Tee will not be stepping back in front of the camera and will only be working behind the scenes on the episode.

“The Chicago Med set is my home away from home… I’ve met the best and the dearest on this show and it fills my heart to be able to go back and see them all again. In this business, projects come and go, but it’s the relationships you make that continue. I’ve been extremely fortunate to have made some great ones at Wolf, NBC and of course, Chicago Med,” Tee told Deadline in celebrating his return.

Brian Tee has been a director on Chicago Med once before

While Brian Tee spent most of his time on Chicago Med in front of the camera playing Dr. Ethan Choi, his upcoming return to direct will not be the first time Tee has stepped behind the camera on the Wolf Entertainment drama.

Following his departure from the show in the ninth episode of season 8, "This Could Be the Start of Something New," Tee returned to the show to direct the seventeenth episode of the season, "Know When to Hold and When to Fold." The episode saw a documentary crew coming to Med to film a groundbreaking surgery as Archer struggled with asking for help for his kidney issues.

It's not uncommon for One Chicago actors to return to the franchise in a directing capacity as the franchise has given many actors the chance to step behind the camera to direct. In fact, many of these directing roles have come after actors stepped away from their roles on their shows, serving as homecomings for the stars to get the chance to show off a different set of skills behind the scenes.

Chicago Fire alum Monica Raymund stepped in to direct an episode of Law & Order: SVU following her exit from the flagship series, and just last season Jesse Lee Soffer returned to direct an episode of Chicago PD following his exit from the series after 10 seasons with the cast.

Clearly, Wolf Entertainment loves to keep things in the One Chicago family and we love seeing One Chicago alums such as Brian Tee returning to the mix, even if not in front of the cameras.
