If you’re in the mood for a new medical drama, NBC has your back. The new series Brilliant Minds premieres on Monday, Sept. 23.

It’s another medical drama based on true events. The series follows stories that the real neurologist Oliver Sacks wrote about his patients in the books The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and An Anthropologist on Mars. The books are a collection of essays, allowing for plenty of stories to tell in Brilliant Minds.

The premiere will introduce us to the main characters, with Zachary Quinto taking the lead as Dr. Oliver Wolf. Wolf is a neurologist who has a different way of dealing with patients. However, the hospital he’s working at doesn’t appreciate his unique approach, leading to him being fired.

Well, he goes off in search of a new job. It wouldn’t be a series to watch if he didn’t get that, right? And he ends up with a new team that he can train to follow his own techniques.

Just keep in mind that this series premiere was written for the networks. It was originally ordered by FOX, who didn’t go through with the series. NBC picked it up, likely off the success of New Amsterdam. The pilot episode is on the predictable side of things, but we’re sure to get more into the meaty storylines in the coming episodes.

Brilliant Minds cast

Quinto is just the star of the show. He’s joined by the following:

Alex MacNicoll as Van Markus
Ashleigh LaThrop as Ericka Kinney
Aury Krebs as Dana Dang
Spence Moore II as Jacob Nash
Tamberla Perry as Carol Pierce
Teddy Sears as Josh Nichols

Take a look at the trailer for the series

NBC has released a trailer for the new series. This does focus mostly on the pilot episode, bringing us an introduction to the type of medical problems that Wolf is going to help solve.

This is slightly different from the traditional medical shows. There’s a focus on neurology, which means for some intriguing cases as we look at the way the brain works.
