CBS reveals premiere date for Blue Bloods final episodes
Blue Bloods is at an interesting place in its history. The show is on the cusp of ending, bringing to a close a beloved, decade and a half storyline. Meanwhile, CBS and the cast are waiting to see when and how the franchise will continue in terms of spinoffs.
CBS Studios President David Stapf confirmed that the show will continue on in some capacity, but maintained that the focus for the time being, is on making sure Blue Bloods goes out on a high note.
Blue Bloods will be be returning to CBS in October
"We have a whole season to go where we intend to celebrate it all season long," Stapf told Deadline. "So there’s still time for us to figure that out." It's encouraging to know that the network won't rush a less-than spinoff onto the screen. That being said, the more exciting aspects of CBS' upcoming schedule is that Blue Bloods is right around the corner.
The network released their anticipated fall schedule, which includes the premiere date for Blue Bloods' final season. Well, the second half, at least. The first half of the season has already wrapped. The decision to split the season into two halves was made out of a desire to make sure the show got plenty of screen time to wrap up character arcs.
Blue Bloods will return to CBS on Friday, October 18. It will resume its usual 10 p.m. time slot, which means it will air right after new episodes of S.W.A.T. (which could potentially be in its final season, as well) and Fire Country.
Blue Bloods has already wrapped production
Blue Bloods has already wrapped production on the series finale, as evidenced by the outpouring of social media posts from the cast and crew. Many of them reflected on the journey that the show has taken fans on over the last decade and a half. Others, like Donnie Wahlberg, detailed how important the show has been to their own lives.
With an October return date, fans have plenty of time to run through the show again, and rewatch their favorite episodes in preparation.
