Chicago Fire boss reveals that Brett takes 'big risks' in season 12
We all know the clock is ticking for Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer). The character was announced to be leaving before Chicago Fire season 12 even got underway, with the assumption being that she'd be gone before in the first few episodes.
This has proven to not be the case. Brett will be sticking around for a good chunk of the shortened season, and as such, she will be dealing with far more than the planning of her wedding to Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer).
Brett is involved in lots of action in season 12
During an illuminating interview with FanGirlish, Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman revealed that not only will Brett be sticking around for a while, but she will be dealing with some very serious issues on the job:
""We have [Kara] for a chunk of episodes. [Brett] kind of throws herself into the job in a way that we have never seen before. She has a lot of really, really big action this season. She is fully committed, and she takes some big risks—maybe too big.""
Brett has had significant work storylines before, the most notable being her push to get ambulances for the paramedic team in season 10, but the notion of taking "big risks" on the job as someone who just adopted a child and is on the cusp of marriage is a fascinating notion.
Brett will appear in most of the 2024 season
It also means the writers are going to send the character out on a high note, instead of just writing her off with a generic storyline or one in which she plays a minor role in the storylines of others.
Newman has confirmed that Casey will be coming back in season 12, so part of the suspense is seeing whether he merely returns for the wedding episode or appears beforehand to help Brett with whatever work struggles she may encounter.
We don't think Brett will be at risk for any serious injuries or life-threatening encounters, but we are curious to see what form the aforementioned "big risks" take as she continues to have her attention split between giving medical care and planning a wedding.
