Chicago Fire casts Dermot Mulroney as new chief in season 13
Chicago Fire is not messing around. The firefighting drama broke the hearts of many fans by having Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) move on from his role as Firehouse 51 chief. There seemed to be a bit of solace in the suggestion that Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) would take over, but then it was announced that Herrmann would be staying out where he is.
The showrunners decided to bring in an outsider to become Firehouse 51's new chief, and now that we know who it is, we have to admit we're pretty excited. Dermot Mulroney has been cast to play Dom Pascal, the man who will take over commanding duties in season 13.
Dermot Mulroney will play Chief Dom Pascal
According to TV Line, Mulroney's character has roots in the Windy City. While it was previously stated that he would be moving from Florida, Dom Pascal actually got his start with the CFD when he was a young man. No word on whether he ever crossed paths with Boden, but the outlet did state that his approach in the firehouse is radically different from his predecessor.
When Chicago Fire announced that Pascal would be stepping in for Boden, Deadline described the character as "cheerful" and "works well under pressure." Now that Dermot Mulroney has been cast, we can more clearly see the vision. The actor is known for playing laid-back, charming characters in shows like Shameless, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Pure Genius.
Mulroney has been a TV star since the 1980s
Mulroney has been on television since the 1980s, and has subsequently appeared in too many notable shows to count. He was on Friends, he was on New Girl, and he had a memorable stint on American Horror Story: Cult. He knows how to make an impression, and we're thrilled to see how he approaches the character of Pascal.
Deadline's last tidbit of information regarding Pascal is that he's estranged from his wife. It's safe to assume we will dig more into this strained relationship as season 13 gets underway.
