Chicago Fire finally confirmed a long-speculated theory about Severide

From the moment we discovered Brett had accepted Casey's proposal in the Chicago Fire season 12 premiere and the pair would be getting married this season, speculation began over who might be tapped to be the best man and maid of honor.

We got the chance to see Brett ask Violet to be her maid of honor, but with Casey having not yet appeared this season the identity of his best man had been left up to speculation. The running theory among fans was that Casey would ask Severide to be his best man but the plot line was never confirmed in the show... that was until we finally got a look at the promo for Brett and Casey's wedding.

In the teaser for episode six, NBC offered up our first look at Brett and Casey's wedding day and in doing so confirmed fans' theory that Casey indeed has asked Severide to be his best man.

Casey asking Severide to be his best man is perfect

While Casey and Severide might have had some issues during the very early seasons of the show, as the years rolled by the two built one of the show's strongest friendships.

They were there for one another through the ups and downs, and as leaders on their respective teams, they were able to understand one another in a way others couldn't as they often faced similar challenges on the job. Neither might be the touchy-feely type, but these are two friends who have played a key role in one another's journeys and always show up for one another no matter the distance between them.

This friendship is why Severide asked Casey to stand up for him on his wedding day as his best man, and it's incredible to see things now come full circle with Severide stepping in as Casey's best man on his big day.

Sure, the show could have gone another route such as having one or both of the Darden boys serve as Casey's best man and we would have understood the storyline decision had it been made. However, it was the absolute right decision to have Severide be the person Casey turned to to stand alongside him on his big day as he prepares to marry the love of his life.
