Chicago Fire isn't new tonight, and we have a long break on our hands

We won't get a new episode of Chicago Fire on Wednesday, April 10. Just how long is this break going to be?

We’re in for a long break of new episodes of Chicago Fire. There isn’t a new episode on tonight, Wednesday, April 10.

This break was made clear at the end of the previous episode. There wasn’t a promo at all. Not only was it clear that we wouldn’t have a new episode this week, but that this break is a long one.

The break is likely two-fold. There is the need to space out new episodes for the NBC schedule. This ensures that the finale will air in May, getting the TV schedule back to some sort of normalcy for the 2024–2025 season.

The second reason could be due to filming needs. It takes weeks to get new episodes filmed and through post-production. NBC will want to make sure there are plenty in the can should there be some sort of unexpected disruption in the schedule.

When will Chicago Fire return with new episodes?

The lack of promo made it clear that this break is a long one. In fact, we’re looking at no new episodes of Chicago Fire or any of the One Chicago shows throughout the rest of April. It looks like the new episode will air on Wednesday, May 1.

In some good news, this does mean that we should see a run of new episodes back-to-back. This should be the last break in the schedule due to NBC trying to set up the finales of the One Chicago lineup in May. There are four episodes left, and four weeks in May to fill for a potential May 22 finale date.

There are no details on what to expect in the new episode just yet. That’s not surprising if there is still the need to get the episode through post-production. We’re also weeks away from the release. We’ll likely get some details in the week or two before the new episode.

At least we know that this break in the schedule won't affect renewals. Chicago Fire season 13 is officially happening, and it will likely return in the fall.
