Chicago Fire provides first look at Casey's season 12 return (finally!)

Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) hasn't been a main cast member on Chicago Fire for nearly two seasons, and yet, he remains a vital part of the storyline. It's been interesting to watch, between the romance with Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and the guest appearances, how he's managed to stay in the mix.

He has, however, been absent from season 12 thus far. There's been several mentions of Casey, and the upcoming wedding between him and Brett, but fans haven't actually gotten a chance to see his face. Until now!

Jesse Spencer has finally been spotted on set

While Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman has already confirmed that Casey will appear in season 12, it was unclear when. The set photos that were uploaded to the Lottie's Pub Instagram account provided some much-needed context.

Lottie's Pub, which serves as the exterior set for Molly's Pub on Chicago Fire, posted a series of photos in which cast members can be seen out of uniform.

People like Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) and Herrmann (David Eigenberg) are wearing suits, and who is right in the middle of the action but Matt Casey.

Jesse Spencer was photographed wearing a black coat and a button-up shirt, and appears to be talking to a fellow cast member between takes. He only appears in one photo out of the bunch, but it's more than enough to confirm that he's back in action.

Casey will be at Molly's Pub in season 12

it appears to be all smiles on the set, but it's worth noting that Andrea Newman told Looper to expect some curveballs and unexpected complications when it comes to the Brettsey marriage. She claimed that the couple are going to have to band together and become closer than ever to prevail:

""We love Matt Casey — we love Jesse — and we will definitely see him this season. We'll see those two together. But there are plans in place that go awry."

That being said, the showrunner also stated that the theme of season 12 was "evolution", and few 51 members exemplify this word than Casey. He's gone from single firefighter to soon-to-be-husband and adoptive father to two sons in a relatively short amount of time.

Despite these huge changes, he will always be a member of the 51, and we will always be excited to see him.
