It seems we've seen the last of Dr. Zola Ahmad, as Chicago Med swiftly wrote Sophia Ali's character off in the tenth episode of the current ninth season.

It seems Chicago Med has just bid farewell to yet another member of its cast, this time in the most sudden – though not unexpected in any way.

At the beginning of the tenth episode of season 9, “You Just Might Find You Get What You Need,” we quickly discovered that Dr. Zola Ahmad had been let go via a quick conversation between Goodwin and Crockett.

“Listen, I wanted you to hear this from me. I just met with the emergency medical program director as well as the board, and Dr. Ahmad has been let go,” Goodwin revealed to Crockett at the top of the hour.

While disappointing and sudden, the exit of Sophia Ali's character was not exactly surprising given when we first met Dr. Ahmad she was hired by Goodwin on a probationary basis after being fired from two previous positions due to her impulsive behavior.

Dr. Zola Ahmad was fired from Chicago Med after breaking protocols

When Dr. Ahmed joined the Chicago Med staff, she did so on a probationary basis and it was made clear this was likely her last chance at being a doctor. She was tasked with working under Dr. Marcel, who attempted to help guide her as a mentor; however, Dr. Ahmed quickly fell back into her old ways and found herself in hot water right out of the gate.

Unfortunately, Dr. Ahmad proved to be her own worst enemy as she continuously failed to follow protocol and colored outside the line putting her patients and the hospital at risk.

Her downfall ultimately came when she got so caught up in a patient being a potential donor match to another patient in the hospital, that she broke protocol and nearly declared the patient braindead by not following the correct steps to check for brain activity after running his blood and determining he was a match for her other patient. Once Crocket found out, he had no choice but to report Dr. Ahmad to Goodwin and the board which led to her suspension from the hospital.

After review, the board decided to fire her which seemed to bring the sudden exit of Sophia Ali from the show after just six episodes.
