Chicago PD cast reunites with former co-star on Instagram
Chicago PD, like the rest of the One Chicago franchise, is undergoing sizable changes in 2024. The procedural will be parting ways with one of its main characters, Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), but that hasn't stopped the cast from celebrating the character's swan song on social media.
Spiridakos took to Instagram shortly before Christmas, and she treated fans to a heartwarming photo of her alongside her veteran Chicago PD cast members like LaRoyce Hawkins, Marina Squerciati, and Patrick John Flueger. If that wasn't enough, the photo also featured an appearance from another ex-One Chicago star, Nick Gehlfuss.
Tracy Spiridakos spends time with her Chicago PD co-stars
Gehlfuss, who recently wrapped up his tenure as Will Halstead on Chicago Med, joined the Chicago PD cast to celebrate Flueger's birthday. Spiridakos made note of the occasion in her caption:
""Thank you @wonderversechicago for helping us celebrate our friend @pjflueger ‘s birthday!! We had so much fun. I highly recommend it you guys, if you’re in Chicago, definitely check it out. Also thank you @marinasqu for organizing and Paddy for being born 😃🤗 We had a WONDERful time….see what I did there?!""
Gehlfuss and Spiridakos may not have shared a ton of screen time during their years on One Chicago, but the two actors have been crucial parts of their respective shows, and their characters are actually related. Will Halstead's brother Jay (Jesse Lee Soffer) is married to Hailey Upton, so the unexpected Instagram reunion was also a family reunion!
Nick Gehlfuss returned to celebrate a One Chicago birthday
While nothing has been said about Patrick John Flueger leaving One Chicago, the actor's future with the show does seem to be unclear. During the season season 10 finale of Chicago PD, his character, Adam Ruzek, was shot in the stomach and left to bleed out. He was eventually taken to the hospital, but the season ended on a bit of a question mark regarding Ruzek's fate.
Gehlfuss may have left Chicago Med, but he told Variety that he was open to reprising his role in the future if the right storyline came along:
""We were all in agreement on that, thankfully, as I talked with Dick and the writers. Whenever it makes sense again for important moments, I’d love to don the white lab coat once again.""
While its commonplace for One Chicago actors to keep the door open for later seasons, the fact that Gehlfuss remains so close with his co-stars leads us to believe that a cameo from Will Halstead may actually happen at some point!
