Chicago PD has had to say goodbye to major characters over the years, and they will be forced to do the same when Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) leaves at some point during season 11. That said, we have confirmation that a new, suddenly vital PD character will be returning.
Benjamin Levy Aguilar, the actor who plays Dante Torres, confirmed the news during an interview with Hello! Magazine, which makes sense given that the character in question, Gloria Perez (Yara Martinez), hooked up with Torres at the end of the episode "Escape."
Torres' informant Gloria Perez will return
A hook-up is nothing new for Chicago PD, but the catch here is that Gloria is the wife of a drug dealer that Torres is trying to take down, and she's working as an informant to make sure that he doesn't get a chance to litter the streets with bad product.
The character initially seemed like a one-off, but Aguilar told the outlet that Gloria will actually play a significant role in future episodes. He also confirmed that the relationship between his character and Gloria will continue to develop as they work together:
"His mind and his body and his heart wouldn't be there if there wasn't something to learn from it, so that's really what I'm looking forward to is to see how that unfolds."
Chicago PD showrunner previously teased that Torres would be going undercover, but nothing could have prepared us for the fact that he got romantically involved with his own informant. It's something we've never really seen occur on PD, despite the countless undercover missions that guys like Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) have taken on.
Torres and Gloria hooked up in 1004
This is an especially complicated situation in Aguilar's opinion, because Torres was eager to prove that he could do a good job his first time out. The verdict is still out on whether he will be able to catch the intended target, but he's definitely made the situation more complicated than it needed to be.
"It's his first time deeply undercover, taking on a big challenge, and maybe there is this need to prove himself that can make it seem like he's biting off more than he can chew."
Regardless of what happens, we're happy to see Torres get more screen time and establish himself as a vital member of the IU team, and we're to see the role that Gloria plays in his mission.
