Did you notice this Chicago Fire callback during Brettsey's wedding?
It's safe to say that the wedding between Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) was a success. There was some stress that occurred in the lead-up to the ceremony, but everything went smoothly during it, and the spouses could not have been more happy.
There was lots of commotion regarding the wedding venue, as Brett wanted the Shedd Aquarium, and tasked Tony Ferraris (Anthony Ferraris) with booking it for her. There was a misunderstanding, and he wound up booking a store called the Aquarium instead.
Brett and Casey got married at an aquarium
Everybody took it in stride, of course, and Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) did an excellent job of dressing the Aquarium up to look wedding-ready. It may have seemed like the underwater theme was merely posed as a chance for some narrative hijinx, but there was a deeper reason why water, and the Shedd Aquarium was on Brett's mind.
During the exchange of vows, Brett told her husband that she wanted to get married at the aquarium because she looks fondly upon the time she and Casey went there in the season 10 episode "Fog of War."
She recalls being with Casey and her half-sister, Amelia (Everly Rapp Petlak) at Shedd Aquarium, and realizing that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with Casey in that moment. She saw how good of a father he could be, which was only validated by his decision to look after the Darden boys.
Brett had a big season 10 moment at an aquarium
It was a surprising callback to a moment that didn't seem particularly consequential at the time, but that's exactly what made the reveal so impactful. So often in life, people can't revisit the moments that prove crucial to their decisions, but in television, where fans can go back and watch any Fire episode they choose, it's actually possible.
"Fog of War" now has an elevated role within the Brettsey relationship, as does Amelia, who had made only appearance prior to popping up in the wedding. Fans would probably not have complained if the character didn't return, but the fact that she was present shows the care that went into the planning of the wedding on the part of the writers and producers.
All in all, we'd say it was a worthy send-off to our beloved Brett.
