The medical drama just lost another major player.

Chicago Med has been dealt some heavy blows in recent seasons. The show was forced to part ways with multiple cast members, including Nick Gehlfuss (Will Halstead), Brian Tee (Ethan Choi), and Yaya DaCosta (April Sexton).

Now, Dominic Rains has joined the list of departures. The actor played Dr. Crockett Marcel for five seasons on Chicago Med, but Deadline confirmed that he will not be part of the main cast in the upcoming tenth season.

Dominic Rains' character will be written off the show

This is not entirely shocking. Chicago Med's season 9 finale left the door open for Marcel to leave, after he had a traumatic encounter on the job. He made it clear that he wanted to get a fresh start somewhere else, but at the same time, he didn't make any definitive decisions.

It appears the decision will be taking place offscreen. The outlet did state, however, that Rains may be involved with season 10 in a smaller capacity. It's currently unknown whether he plans to appear in the season premiere as a means of giving his character a proper sendoff, or will simply choose to depart the show between seasons.

It's not clear if he will appear in the season 10 premiere

Chicago Med will not only look different in season 10, without Rains, but it will feature different creatives behind the scenes. Diane Frolov and Andrew Scheider were the Med showrunners during the first nine seasons, but they chose to step down and hand the reins over to Allen MacDonald.

Rains has not given a reason for his departure, nor has he booked any major roles outside of the One Chicago universe. In fact, the actor has spent the last several years only playing Dr. Marcel on TV. His last credited TV role besides One Chicago was on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in 2017-18. The same goes for his big screen credits. The last film Rains appeared in was A.X.L. in 2018.

The decision to leave Med will certainly allow him to pursue more varied in the future.
