Donnie Wahlberg's dream Blue Bloods cameo may surprise you
Donnie Wahlberg has been on a promo tear recently. The actor has been discussing the final season of Blue Bloods on various talk shows and podcasts, and he's dropped bombshells regarding the odds of a possible renewal and the people he'd like to see make cameos.
We've already detailed Wahlberg's exciting, albeit vague, teaser about Blue Bloods being renewed by CBS, but we wanted to shift to the people who could realistically fit within the show's gritty world. The actor has been around for decades, and his brother is an Oscar nominee, so one might assume that he would want to bring someone of that ilk around.
Wahlberg wants a New Kids on the Block cameo
Nope! Wahlberg went on the SiriusXM show Andy Cohen Live to confirm that he would cast his New Kids on the Block bandmate, Joey McIntyre. Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan, thinks it would be fun to have McIntyre appear on the show as a "love interest" to his partner, which could spark some jealously and tension.
Wahlberg told Andy Cohen that he's actually been trying to get McIntyre on the show for quite some time, and has been pestering producers:
"I said, 'Yes. Get freaking Joey on the show because you told me you were gonna get him on the show a decade ago and we're still waiting.' So we'll see."
It may seem like a stretch for Wahlberg to shoehorn in a member of his iconic boy band, but New Kids on the Block cameos actually have a precedence on Blue Bloods. He managed to get Jordan Knight to make an uncredited cameo appearance as "Man in the police station" in the 2011 episode "Model Behavior."
Wahlberg has been trying to secure one for years
Wahlberg is obviously tight with the other New Kids on the Block, who include McIntyre, Knight, Danny Wood, and Jonathan Knight. The boy band is still active, and are in the midst of promoting their upcoming album, Still Kids, which will release on May 17.
Wahlberg reiterated that McIntyre would be a "bucket list" get for him, especially with the show possibly wrapping after season 14:
"It's a no brainer for Joey to do it, and I'm sure he'd be willing if there was a good part, but it just hasn't been the right thing."
The actor joked that McIntyre wouldn't get a chance to beat up his character, but could play a "love interest" for Reagan's partner and possible spark some jealously in the process. We hope to see it!
