Don't worry, 911 isn't ending (It's returning in the fall)

The first responder drama has a lot more story to tell.

9-1-1 dished out a pretty dramatic season 7 finale. The first responder drama saw Captain Gerrard Brian Thomspon) take control of the 118, and Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) get the boot. It was not a turn of events that fans saw coming, and it was especially shocking for those who were unsure of the show's future.

Fortunately, 9-1-1 is not going anywhere. As the season 7 cliffhanger implies, the show is coming back for another season on ABC. It will feel like hardly any time has passed by the time the show returns in the fall, especially given the massive gap between seasons 6 and 7.

9-1-1 has been renewed for season 9 by ABC

Like most procedural dramas, 9-1-1 was affected by the Hollywood strikes, and not only was there a longer wait than usual between seasons, but the episode count for season 7 was also cut down by a sizable amount.

There's no word on how many episodes season 8 will have (yet), but it's safe to assume it will be closer to the usual amount, given that the cast and crew will be able to resume its usual production schedule.

ABC has already released its fall schedule, and much to fans' delight, 9-1-1 is one of the shows listed. The first responder drama will air on Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. ET. It'll be slotted in front of the new Ryan Murphy series Doctor Odyssey, which will premiere at at 9:00 p.m. as a replacement for another first responder drama, Station 19. Grey's Anatomy will then round out the Thursday night schedule with a 10 p.m. air time.

The show will resume its usual time slot in the fall

While we're fortunate enough to know what time of the week the show will return, the network has yet to release an official release date. There's also a veil of secrecy around what will happen in the story. During a recent interview with Decider, actor Peter Krause admitted that he had no clue what was going to happen next.

“I’m not sure exactly what Tim [Minear] has planned," the actor said. "But I’m sure it’s not going to be an immediately easy road for Bobby to regain the captainship of the 118. I have faith that he will. But I’m not sure I’m not sure exactly what he’s got got in store."

Either way, we're relieved and excited to know that 9-1-1 is far from over.
