Fire Country has the potential to be the next big franchise in procedural television, and CBS is taking all of the necessary steps to ensure it gets there. The show has already added three new actors to its season 2 cast, and now, it's angling to set up a spin-off.
According to Deadline, the network is preparing to launch a Fire Country spin-off that will focus on the sheriffs that the inmates and firefighters have to contend with. It will obviously have more of a legal drama sheen to it, but it will maintain the same balance of grit and emotional drama that has made Fire Country so appealing to fans.
Fire Country will set up a spin-off show in 2024
The untitled spin-off is predicted to come out some time in 2025, but fortunately, fans won't have to wait that long to meet the protagonist of the show. The outlet reported that the protagonist will be introduced at some point during Fire Country season 2.
The casting process is still ongoing, but it has been confirmed that the sheriff will be a woman, and that she will appear in a limited capacity throughout season 2. Deadline has asserted that the idea to introduce this character on the flagship came about organically, and is not intended to serve as a sort of backdoor pilot.

Those familiar with procedural franchises know what a backdoor pilot looks like. It's an instance in which the main cast of a show elicits the help of another team, thereby introducing and setting up said team for their own show. CSI, NCIS and One Chicago have done this multiple times.
CBS will not be staging a backdoor pilot for the spin-off
This is something that Fire Country is trying to avoid. There won't be a grand introduction to the cast of the spin-off, but rather an introduction to the protagonist, so that fans can develop a connection with her before she goes on her own adventures.
Apparently, CBS wants to keep its options open, and will consider a myriad of options depending on how well the new character is received. She could head up the spin-off, or, depending on where her story goes, she could be added to the Fire Country.
Regardless of what occurs, we're excited by the possibility of yet another addition to the cast.
