Grey's Anatomy season 20 teaser provides update on Teddy's fate
Grey's Anatomy is famous for its shocking finale episodes, and season 19 was no different. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) was dealing with a painful toothache throughout much of the two-hour finale, but nobody expected that it would lead to her collapsing on the floor and flatlining.
The last we saw of the character, she was being shocked with defribulator pads in an effort to restart her heart. It was not an encouraging sight, and it's one that has stuck with Grey's fans during the long wait for season 20. Is Teddy going to kick the bucket? The teaser for the upcoming season has shed some light on the matter.
Teddy Altman is said to be in 'critical condition'
Obviously, the purpose of teaser trailers is to get fans excited for the season without giving away the major twists that will ultimately accompany it. That being said, we did get confirmation that Teddy is alive towards the end of the teaser. Dr. Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill) can be heard saying that she is in "critical condition", which squashes out the theory that Teddy would die between seasons.
There's also the fact that actress Kim Raver has extended her Grey's Anatomy contract into season 20, all but confirming that her character, Teddy, will return in some capacity. According to Deadline, Raver plans to stay on the show after an inconsistent tenure that included a season 6 debut, then a return in season 14 after a five-year break.
Kim Raver has already signed on Grey's Anatomy S20
This tracks with what Raver previously told ET Online. She noted that Grey's Anatomy has such a strong foundation that the show can go on for years while still maintaining a compelling story and exploring different facets of the established characters:
""I just feel like there’s [something] inherently in Grey’s Anatomy and the amazing way to tell human stories and I feel like that just can keep going. We have all these new, young interns and there’s so many stories to be told with them and I love them in contrast with the attendings.""
While the teaser, the contract extension, and Raver's comments have sort of nullified the suspense of whether or not her character will return, it is nice to know that fans will continue to get more of Teddy Altman in the upcoming (albeit shortened) season of Grey's Anatomy.
