It’s been a long wait for Chicago Fire season 12, just like so many other shows on the broadcast networks. Well, the wait is finally over. The One Chicago franchise is back tonight.

There are a lot of questions going into this episode. Many of them come off the back of the season 11 finale, which ended with a couple of major cliffhangers. The other questions come from reveals during the summer, including the fact that Alberto Rosende is coming out of the series at some point early this season.

Chicago Fire season 12, episode 1 preview

Take a look at the synopsis to get ready for the episode. It's not looking good when it comes to the outcome for a character we love:

"Firehouse 51 is forced to share space with Firehouse 17; Kidd and Herrmann fight over Ritter; an arson case tests Kidd and Severide's relationship; Firehouse 51 says goodbye to one of its own."

The episode needs to answer one burning question first. What happens to Mouch? Fans have been worried that we won’t get to see the character anymore with the way things ended in the season 11 finale. We last saw him bleeding out from his hospital bed and Herrmann rushing out to get help.

While that happened, Casey turned up at Brett’s door and proposed. We know Kara Kilmer is leaving the season at some point this season, so we’re hazarding a guess that she will say yes and the exit will involve her heading to Portland to be with Casey.

What about the storylines of the Chicago Fire season 12 premiere, though? Well, Severide is back. It’s time to find out where he was and why he didn’t return. Promotional footage for the One Chicago shows makes it look like he isn’t taking Kidd’s concerns about him being gone so long seriously.

Meanwhile, Firehouse 17 will join Firehouse 51. It’s not clear why these two firehouses are working together, but could it lead to something disastrous happening to one of 51’s own? There are a lot of concerns that Chicago Fire will break our hearts with Gallo coming out of the show in a far more permanent way than we’d like.
