Is a new episode of Chicago PD on NBC tonight? (March 13)

The police drama is still on hiatus after taking a week off.

Chicago PD really got into a groove with its last episode. "Survival" was the highlight of season 11 so far, and a lot of the episode's appeal came from Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) springing into action and giving fans some of his most invested and intense investigating in years.

Unfortunately, the momentum of "Survival", which ended with some unresolved storylines, has been slowed by the fact that the show has gone on hiatus. There wasn't a new episode on March 6, and there won't be a new episode on Wednesday, March 13, either. Instead, NBC will air a return of an earlier season 11 episode.

It's undoubtedly a bummer, given how long fans had to wait to get new episodes in the first place, but the good news is that Chicago PD will return with a new episode on Wednesday, March 20. NBC has already released a teaser for the upcoming episode, which is titled "The Living and the Dead."

The synopsis for "The Living and the Dead" reads as follows:

"An ongoing case hits close to home for Voight as Intelligence teams up with an SVU detective to track down a prolific offender."

Chicago PD will return March 20

Given how "Survival" ended with Voight taking things into his own hands, and sheltering a kidnapping victim from his seemingly abusive family, it makes sense that the the new episode would continue the story.

The angle we didn't expect to see anytime soon is a partnership with an SVU detective. It remains to be seen whether said detective will be an original character from Chicago, or if it will be an SVU name from another Dick Wolf show, Law & Order: SVU.

Chicago PD and SVU have had crossovers in the past, and even some shipping rumors between Voight and SVU's Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), but given the complicated path to resuming production for both shows, we'd be surprised to see an official crossover happen so soon.
