It’s bad news for fans of Chicago Fire and the rest of the One Chicago franchise. NBC is taking another break from the regular schedule. There is not a new episode of the series on tonight, Wednesday, March 6.

This is something that was warned to us in the promo for the new episode. The break is necessary for a couple of reasons. The first is to keep production on track and make sure there are episodes ready for us to watch, and the second is because there are only 13 episodes in the season and more than 13 weeks to cover from the premiere date back in January. NBC will want to finish the season in May as usual.

The good news is there is a rerun on tonight. We’re heading back to the second hour of the season, which is when Mouch looked at changing his nickname and his legacy at the firehouse. The episode also saw the start of Herrmann’s hearing issues with Ritter pushing him to see a doctor instead of putting it all off.

When will Chicago Fire return with new episodes on NBC?

The promo for Chicago Fire season 12, episode 7 is out. It tells us that the series will return on Wednesday, March 20. It looks like this break is also timed with March Madness, as well, and we know the networks don’t like going up against big sporting events. March is a popular time for a break in the regular TV schedule.

It will mean a night of reruns next Wednesday, too. If you’re not happy with rewatching the more recent episodes, you can always turn to Peacock to rewatch any of the episodes in the season.

When the show returns, we’ll see Severide back. They’re dealing with a big fire, which could be arson. However, the girl at the firehouse isn’t interested in sharing details about the reason for the fire. She just wants the money that was in the house.
