Kara Killmer is already hinting at a possible Chicago Fire return
We're officially on the farewell tour for Sylvie Brett. The character will be leaving Chicago Fire behind in the episode "Port in the Storm", as she will be marrying Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) and moving to Oregon. It'll take some adjusting to get used to the idea of Chicago Fire without Brett, but the actress who plays her, Kara Killmer has some encouraging words for fans.
In a recent interview with Deadline, the actress revealed that she is open to the possibility of coming back to Chicago Fire in a limited capacity, and making even making a cameo the same way that Jesse Spencer has in recent seasons.
Killmer wants to make Chicago Fire cameos
Killmer has been part of the Chicago Fire family since 2014, and her Instagram has made it clear that she is going to miss the cast and crew. The same goes for Brett, who has become increasingly wistful in season 12. It should then come as no surprise that Killmer would be down to reprise the character in future storylines:
"You never know what’s going to happen at 51. We love to see familiar faces come back through... I would be more than happy to pop back in."
The actress noted that it's common for firefighters and paramedics to stay in touch, and drop by a given firehouse if they are in town, so it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine a storyline in which Brett drops by to say hello to Violet (Hanako Greensmith), or catch up with the rest of the team.
The actress is eager to 'pop back in' as Brett
While Killmer is more than happy to continue the Brett storyline in a limited capacity, she told the outlet that she was pleased with the resolution that she is getting in her proper sendoff episode. Brett's personal struggles have been the dominant part of her arc in the last few seasons, but the character finally seems to be at peace with herself and her loved ones (especially Casey):
"It would have been really strange if my character’s journey ended without [Casey] being there. It really gave her and me the perfect closure."
"Port in the Storm" is destined to be a season 12 highlight, and a bittersweet viewing experience for anyone who has rooted for Brettsey over the years, but at least we can take solace in the fact that we will probably get to see them make cameos in the future.
