Law & Order: Organized Crime teases Benson & Stabler reunion in season 5
Law & Order: Organized Crime is going through a bit of a bumpy transition. The show hasn't been canceled, but it has been relocated from its time slot on NBC to the network's streaming platform, Peacock. This means no more Law & Order Thursdays, which stifles the franchise's ability to stage massive crossovers.
Apparently, crossovers are still very much on the table. Christopher Meloni, the star of Law & Order: Organized Crime, is penning episodes for the upcoming season, and People Magazine has revealed that one of Meloni's scripts will bring SVU star Mariska Hargitay into the fold for a cameo!
Olivia Benson will cameo on Law & Order: OC
Meloni, who spent years playing Elliot Stabler on Law & Order: SVU, played coy about whether he would return to his old stomping grounds in 2024. He did, however, confirm that Hargitay's character Olivia Benson would be dropping in for a crucial episode of Organized Crime. “I know Benson will be with OC for a moment there," he teased.
The actor/writer kept the specific details of the episode's plot under wraps, but he did hint at there being some emotional scenes between Stabler and Benson. Which, if we're being honest, is what franchise fans really want at the end of the day:
"I'll tell you what. Hopefully, uncover, peel away a little bit more of the onion or uncover a little more depth of feeling between them."
The ex-partners were last seen in SVU season 25
Meloni isn't the only one who has been excited to make a "Bensler" reunion happen. Mariska Hargitay voiced enthusiasm for the idea during a recent interview with Variety. The actors are friends in real life, and have discussed future storylines ad nauseam.
"I just told him the other day," Hargitay revealed to the outlet. "We had a party the other night, we saw each other. t was heavenly. I met his showrunner. They want us together, and Chris and I were talking about it, and it’s time."
Stabler and Benson teamed up briefly during the season 25 finale of SVU in May, but we're not going to disagree with Hargitay that it's "time." Anything to get these two back onscreen together.
