Law & Order: SVU star will return for season 25 (in a different role)
Law & Order likes to use the same actors. It's a common occurrence in Dick Wolf-produced shows to bring actors back, even if its in completely different roles. This is precisely what's going to happen with David Krumholtz in the upcoming season of Law & Order: SVU.
According to TV Line, Krumholtz will be playing a crucial role in season 25, episode 3, titled "The Punch List." He didn't give too much away, seemingly by design, as his character will be someone who is not entirely honest with the SVU team:
"It's a very different Law & Order: SVU. I'm a victim this time, but I won't give anything else away. It's a great episode."
Krumholtz's comment about things being "different" is true in two different ways. Firstly, it suggests the character he plays, and the story he will appear in, will vary somewhat from the usual Law & Order formula. Secondly, it means Krumholtz will be maintaining the continuity set by his other appearances on the show.

Krumholtz appeared in a season 4 episode of the original Law & Order, "Sweeps", in which he played a character named Scott "Speedy" Fisher. The episode aired way back in 1993, shortly before the actor rose to fame as Bernard the Elf in The Santa Clause franchise.
Krumholtz has already been on Law & Order twice
Krumholtz then showed up in the Law & Order: SVU episode "Wet", in which he played Dr. Vincent Prochik. This episode aired in 2010, when the actor had already established himself as a standout supporting presence in comedies like Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle (2004) and Superbad (2007).
One of the SVU veterans who is excited to have Krumholtz back in the mix is Ice-T. Krumholtz took to social media to hype up their scenes together. He posted a photo of the two of them with the caption:
"My dude @icet is a trip. LOVED working on L&O SVU these past couple weeks. Stay tuned!"
