LL Cool J has joined the NCIS: Hawaii cast (but there’s a twist)

LL Cool J is indeed now part of the NCIS: Hawaii cast just not in the way some fans might be hoping.

NCIS: Los Angeles may be over, but LL Cool J's time as Agent Sam Hanna most certainly has not come to an end, nor does it look to be coming to an end anytime soon!

While NCIS: LA has come to an end, wrapping its 14-season run last May, CBS was not ready to say goodbye to LL Cool J so easily and has found a way to keep him around at the network via NCIS: LA's sister series NCIS: Hawaii. Fans were thrilled to see Sam pop up in the season 3 premiere on February 12 as he made his way to Hawaii to conduct Tennant's final interview to clear her return to work.

Along the way, Sam ended up helping Tennant investigate a hacker, accompanying her to Vegas where the pair tracked down the source of a breach in the U.S. Marshall’s database only to discover the hackers' true target was a prisoner transfer set to be handled by the Marshalls.

Tonight, the NCIS team will work to find the convicts who escaped when the transport plane went down. For Tennant, this means teaming up with Sam in order to locate the high-profile Russian prisoner known as The Chemist. The episode will see Sam again back in action with LL Cool J remaining a key part of the second part of the two-part premiere event.

LL Cool J will be sticking around as part of the NCIS: Hawaii cast

Needless to say the addition of LL Cool J to the NCIS: Hawaii Ohana has been quite exciting for fans of NCIS: LA and the good news is that LL Cool J will be sticking around, though not in the way you might expect.

Here's the good news, LL Cool J has indeed joined the cast for season 3; however, he's joined the cast as a recurring guest star and not as a series regular. What does this mean? Well, it basically means that we can expect more of Agent Sam Hanna this season but that LL Cool J is not yet a part of the series regular cast and might not appear in every episode of the third season -- or might only appear in a small role in certain episodes.

While LL Cool J might not be a series regular on NCIS: Hawaii at the moment, his guest-starring role is shaping up to be a bigger role than we expected when it was first announced. Guest stars typically pop up for a random one-off episode here and there, but LL Cool J has appeared in the first two episodes and he's also slated to appear in episode 3 as well -- hinting that we might be seeing more of Sam this season than expected.

Honestly, adding LL Cool J in a more permanent role on the show seems like the natural evolution given how Sam has been weaved into the season 3 storylines. Plus, it would give NCIS: LA fans a reason to continue tuning in weekly to NCIS: Hawaii while also opening the door for additional NCIS: LA alums to pop up from time to time in guest roles!
